Rules:This game uses the Shades of Ruin rules set, which can be found here: viewtopic.php?f=44&t=2701

Lore:The players survived a shipwreck and gathered on the shores of Vylin Tor for a journey to the city of Marinth. Accompanied by Holdyr Seyth, the noble who owns the region's lands, the players fought their way through waves of Ruinshades and the Vek. The players learned that the storms in the area had been manipulated by a being called the Stormcaller, and eventually found the Stormcaller and defeated her in combat. When defeated, she left behind a black crystal and seemed to fade away into the air.

Shortly after the battle, the players encountered a large patrol of guards from Marinth, who recognized the Holdyr and offered to escort the group back to the city. The players continue traveling toward Marinth for two more days, finally arriving at the city. Holdyr Seyth asks the players to accompany him to his home immediately, so that they may hear the reports on the developments in the land while he has been away.

OOG Notes: At game-time-in, the PCs are just approaching Holdyr Seyth's home. They have been offered the use of the outlying buildings around the Holdyr's home (which is the central lodge/kitchen). The three cabins closes to the entrance of Lawler Alpine are for PC use, and will be in-game at all times. If you are not comfortable sleeping in-game, please camp in one of the cabins further away; the other three cabins will be out-of-game for the evening, but may be used in-game at certain points during the event. NPCs and staff may sleep in the OOG cabins or sleep in-character along with the PCs at their choice. If PCs wish to sleep in the Holdyr's home (the lodge/kitchen), they may ask him for permission to do so in-game.

The cabins have bunk beds and heaters, but we recommend bringing a sleeping bag and/or blankets. The lodge/kitchen area does not have beds; if you are interested in sleeping in there in-game, bringing a cot or sleeping mat is recommended. You may also bring a tent and set it up near the PC area if you choose.

If you choose to sleep in-game, be prepared for the possibility that there may be encounters in your cabins or the Holdyr's home in the middle of the night. The OOG cabins, however, will be "safe" and you may choose to sleep in them if you wish to.

Lore: Holdyr Seyth, the ruler of the lands of Marinth on the continent of Vylin Tor, recently gathered a large band to accompany him on a sea voyage from the city Terisgard on the continent of Mythralis back to his own lands. Catastrophe strikes as an unnatural storm smashes into Holdyr Seyth's ships, throwing the vessels off course. The captains are experienced at their trade, but the storm rages with unbridled fury - and the sorcerers among the band sense the power of a dominion unleashed against them. The ships are forced to land many miles from Marinth, but still within Holdyr Seyth's lands. With the ships badly battered by the storm, the group will be forced to make their way to Marinth on foot - but the sorcerers with the group warn that whoever unleashed the ravaging storm may be lying in wait nearby.

Note: This is a line course that will begin near the library, but may take the players to other parts of the park. If you arrive on-site late, call Andrew at 818-620-3695 if you are unable to find the current location of the players.

Date: Friday, March 5th - March 7th 2010

Time: Game begins at 7 PM on Friday. Game ends at noon on Sunday.

PC Game Fee: $30 for new players, $80 for current players.
NPC Game Fee: $10.

Event Description:

Mistakes happen.

Thinking you can challenge the higher powers... that gets you in trouble.
Some will believe that you have died, others vanished without a trace.
If you had a follower they would believe you have ascended.
However the truth is far worse than that. You have achieved absolute freedom.

Think it's fun? Greatness comes at a price.
You may be heroes, but you have seen nothing. Let us remove the haze.
You have achieved freedom, but the cost to truly be free is much higher.
Now, you are children again, and I will try to help you.

What little I know and have seen I will share. I hold nothing against
any of you for letting me die, it was foolish to think that such an
existence was all that remains.

Welcome to the beginning and the end. For such concepts no longer apply to you.
Maybe next time the simple life a turnip farmer will be more appealing.

Update!

Welcome to this week's semi-annual 10 pm front page update! (and by semi-weekly I mean it won't be happening again). A couple of important updates to make.

In the realm of Mythralis, new occurences are afoot. Apparently, the gods have designated the new event to be on "Mae 4teen - 16teen" and to occur at "law ler apl-i-ne", whatever that means...crazy priests and prophetess...(The game from May 14-16 is scheduled to occur at Lawler Alpine). Apparently, the gods have also looked into something called "Joe-sef-o", which they are currently commanding their followers to look into (Shades of Ruin is currently looking into reserving Camp Josepho for August 13th to August 15th).

And remember, oh lords of all within your domain (all you chapter heads.); feel free to make mighty decrees or send your words to your humble servant...pm works...

The pictures from Laneque's Chaos Game III have now been posted here . A lot of them are very professional, so my compliments to the photographer. If you feel like you should be there, you can make sure to show up at any of the upcoming games.

Speaking of which, the next upcoming game is February 6th, 2 weeks from now. If you plan on coming and then following on to the new campaign (Shades of Ruin), then feel free to come and make a new character. For more information, click here .

Also, make sure that everybody has a great few upcoming weeks! I know that students have a couple of days off, so you have no excuse to miss any of these great upcoming games!

I have returned!

Sorry for the recent lull in updates; however, I will try to make them a bit more frequent from now on.

The Laneque's Chaos game was this past weekend, and from what I have heard it went well. It was snowing, and I can't WAIT to see the pictures from the game.

Make sure to check the group page at meetup.com to make sure that you have the dates for the upcoming games; I can assure you, they are not ones you would like to miss.

And, as always, start buying tickets to Wyrdcon 2010: there are no promises that they will be there later on. So start ordering now!

On Tuesday Jan 12 Messina will be having a plot meeting that will be planning out the next two games. Game 2 which is the upcoming game and some aspects of Game 3 which be at wyrdcon Friday night. If you would like your personal plot or backgrounds to become apart of the story in these upcoming games, please send us writeups or plot requests. Writeups that have already been sent will be worked into the plot and story. If there is anything new that needs to be added please don't hesitate to do so. This will not be our only plot meeting so not all is lost if we don't have your writeup before Jan 12 but the sooner we get your writeups and plot requests the more time we have to weave them into the world.

Writeups, backgrounds and plot requests should be sent to Messina@photonmoon.com

Rules Update!

Yes, my friends, you read the title correctly! The Shades of Ruin rulebook has been updated. It can be found on the forums. Make sure to scroll to the bottom of the page for all the correct info: if you got the correct update, it should have subdivisions of the thievery skill. The link should be right about http://www.onlineeffects.net/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=44&t=2701.

Additionally, this new year kicks off what I would like to call the "Larp Festival" coming soon, we will have an event every or almost every weekend. Make sure to check the meetup.com page for more info (also, Alex should have sent it in email form to all members of the meetup group; way to take the initiative Alex!)

Finally, a lot of people will be sad to have to go back to work/school/being an evil mastermind (anyone else besides me?). Just remember: 356 days... 356 days...
